Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — one of the six largest mosques in the world. It is located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Only Muslims are usually allowed to visit mosques. But this mosque can be visited by everyone.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — a symbol of modern Islamic architecture and the most popular attraction of the United Arab Emirates. It is named after the founder and first President of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He chose the location and took substantial influence on the architecture and the design of the mosque. According to his wish, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque is also the last resting place of its name giver, who passed away in 2004.
The mosque impresses with its grandeur of architecture, of white marble and impeccable design. After the first phase involving foundations and the concrete structure, the mosque was finished with a decoration of Greek and Italian white marble, which is considered to be among the purest of the world. There are 82 domes on the outer tier of the main building. Their interior decoration is also made of marble.
In addition, the designers have also used mosaic to cover the entire courtyard and thus it is considered among the largest open spaces in mosques worldwide. Its size is over 17,000 square meters.
In this mosque there is the over 5,625 square meters large carpet in the main prayer hall. It has been hand-knotted by about 1,300 Iranian craftsmen out of 35 tons of wool and 12 tons of cotton. In the halls of the mosque seven chandeliers were hang, decorated with gold leaf and Swarovski crystals. It is the world’s largest chandelier installed in the mosque.
The complex covers an area of 22,412 square meters.

There is a bus station Al Ghubaiba in Dubai. Then there are buses to the bus station in Abu Dhabi from Al Ghubaiba. These buses go by the mosque. You can also take a taxi from Dubai.
